One of the effects of global warming is rising sea levels. In addition to the calculable rise in water levels, the latest IPCC report expects an increase in extreme sea events, such as storm surges. The consequences will have a major impact on the structural infrastructure in low-lying communities on the seashore in Germany and worldwide. In this seminar, participants will develop new concrete design solutions for this problem.
The theoretical part of the seminar will focus on researching existing and new building design strategies for sea level rise. The practical part of the seminar will focus on the development of new materials and construction solutions in a selected endangered North Sea coastal region in Germany. Sustainability, responsiveness and adaptivity should be at the centre of the proposed solutions.
