This seminar introduces you to the experimental application of Mycelium as a façade cladding and offers you the opportunity to work your way up from small samples to real 1:1 façade panel prototypes. During the seminar, you will first learn about the basic properties of this new building material. Through practical exercises and workshops, you will learn how Mycelium can be cultivated, moulded and processed. We will explore the potential of mycelium façades to test their functional performance and develop a new bio-aesthetic in architecture. We will start with small samples to better understand the material properties and processing techniques. Throughout the seminar, they will work their way step by step to finally produce a 1:1 model of an applicable façade panel. This practical approach allows participants to translate their theoretical knowledge into tangible results and develop creative solutions. The main objective of the seminar is to enable students to produce several prototypes of applicable façade panels made of mycelium composites. Through hands-on experimentation and creative thinking, participants will be able to actively explore and realise innovative façade designs that are both aesthetically pleasing and sustainable.
